Background:
Murrayburn Primary School was opened in 1939. It is a two-storey building built to linear design, with facilities including two halls, dining room, and rooms for ICT, speech and language unit, parents' room and activity room. Sizeable playground surrounds school and in summer, Sighthill Park serves as playing field. The school offers specialist subjects including recorder, brass, violin, orchestra and choir, with after-school clubs offering activities such as basketball, science and chess. Some older pupils offered individual musical instrument tuition. In June 2001, the P6/P7 rugby team, which includes both boys and girls, won SRU Under-13 Scottish Championship. The school maintains good links with community, local businesses, church, local libraries, after-school care centres and Wester Hailes Youth Agency. There is a very supportive parents' association and also parent-teacher association. Pupils choose charity each year for which they raise funds. The school aims to provide a happy and safe environment for the children. This school session, the school has opened a speech and language impairment class for for six children with Autism. The school has achieved silver level of the Eco-school's award.
