Background:

Stenhouse Primary School is a non-denominational, co-educational school providing education for children from nursery to primary seven. Built in 1930, the school is a sound, functional building with small but well proportioned and attractive classrooms, all with a southern exposure. A single wing houses the nursery children and primary one and two. The older children and the speech and language unit occupy classrooms in a two-storey wing. Between the two wings of the school lies an attractive courtyard with grassy areas, tables and benches. The whole complex is amply supplied with hard surface play areas. Within the school are two fine halls, which, in addition to providing general assembly and an area for school dinners, accommodate courts for badminton, basketball and all physical education activities. The school offers a range of extra-curricular activities including Scottish country dancing, football, craft and African drumming. There is a school choir, which has a very good reputation, having performed for visiting dignitaries to Edinburgh and at local events. .
